INVITATION – LAUNCH 1 JUNE 2008

Please note additional information for the launch of the Southern Cape Jewish Association (or the name that we are going to decide upon) will take place as planned on Sunday 1 June 2008 at 10:30 am. We are requesting that you read a copy of the Draft Constitution so that it can be accepted at the meeting. We appreciate the input of individuals who have already contributed ideas that have been included in the document. Membership of the proposed Association will be R18:00 or R36:00 depending on the decision that is adopted. Please ensure that you sign the attendance register that will be circulated at the meeting.

Please log-on to http://www.africanjewishcongress.com/rsascjc.htm for details of the draft Constitution.

The South African Friends of Beth Hatefutsoth has launched the book “Jewish Life in the South African Country Communities” volume 3 which is about Camdeboo, Cape Midlands, Garden Route, Griqualand East, Transkei, Langkloof, Little Karroo, North Eastern Cape, Overberg and the Settler Country. Did you know that Stutterheim, Sterkstroom, Peddie and Indwe had Jewish communities? The moral of the story is Please become part history and attend.

We will meet at the grounds of the Oudtshoorn Hebrew Congregation which is in Baron von Rheede Street at 10:30 am. Baron van Rheede Street is the main road that leads into Oudtshoorn from George. Just carry straight on this road through the centre of town towards the Caves and the Shul is on the left after crossing Church Street and passing the Total Garage. Here we will have a formal meeting to finalize and adopt the proposed constitution, articles of Association and elect a formal structure. Once the structure has been put in place the Association will decide if it should apply for membership of the South African Jewish Board of Deputies.

At 11:30 am we will depart from the Shul and visit the cemetery.

From the cemetery we will move off to have lunch, which will be a “bring and braai” at the Cango Mountain Resort. The Resort is 22 km out of Oudtshoorn on the road to the caves. There is a brown direction sign that says “Cango Mountain Resort” 3 km. We have been in contact with the resort manager, Mr. Dippenaar, who by the sound of things will do everything and more in his power to make this a day a day to remember.

The tariffs are as follows:- Adults R12=00, Children R7=00 and R16=00 per car. The group rate is a 30% discount on the aforementioned.

The chances are that the Oudtshoorn Karroo winter weather is normally much better than the coast at this time of the year.

Cheers
